Help! By: Linus

Hello!  I am Linus, Lucy's brother.  You may know a little about me from Lucy's posts and pictures.  I am starting an advice column on Lucy Life about your pets.  This post is about your parents not letting you get a pet.  Here's a secret: begging doesn't work.  The more you beg, the less likely something like this is going to happen.  Some of you have probably put your parents in a permanent state of denial, but I can help!  You must show your parents you're responsible and that you can take care of a pet.  A great way to do that is to become educated.  If you want a hamster, find out more about them by researching them in an encyclopedia or on the Internet.  When you know your stuff, confront your parents.  You can have a civilized discussion or write them a letter.  List the pros of having a pet.  Compromise with your parents and remember to be respectful of their authority.  If they say no, give the topic a rest and try again some other day.  First try to come up with a compromise.  If you want a puppy and they say no, try starting smaller like a fish or a turtle.  They are great for new pet owners.  I hope this is helpful and good luck!!
